I keep forgetting to work on my journal from Internet Explorer I am guessing that is why the above photo is fuzzy-looking?
Do you remember a while back, I mentioned our evening routine that we do with picsyms communication? The above collage of photos are part of our morning routine. *Picsyms* is communication used by individuals who are nonverbal and unable to express themselves with sign language. Although Stephen understands a lot of basic sign, he doesnt have the fine motor skills, to express himself through sign. The schedule is sort of like a to-do list, like you and I would use. Its great for helping him remember what is going to happen next. (In fact, I think itd be a great tool for toddlers!)
(You can see the TV in the background, he is watching Elmos world on Sesame Street this morning) J This was around breakfast time, and he was (1) getting his milk out of the refrigerator. (2) the green strip on the side of the fridge is his picsym schedule. He is removing his picsym of milk from the schedule. (3) he places the pic of milk in the envelope, labeled, finished beside it. (4) he decided to take the envelope off the fridge (Hes not supposed to do this, but, what the hey?) to take all of the pics out and look them over He has a strange obsession for Velcro, and unfortunately, the pictures and the schedule have Velcro on the back and he played with this for a little while. But, that is okay with me, as you can see if you squint hard enough in pic #4, his sippy cup is empty. He is Finished with his milk, and even put the empty cup on the counter instead of rolling it under a piece of furniture! And Yes, Ayn..You were correct in your last comment; Our little man is gaining a little independence and its really cool to witness this, as he is learning a lot this year! Stephen is a very smart child and once he learns something, he never, ever forgets it. I will stop boring you with all of this for now. I can swear I just heard someone yawn. I had to put this is my journal to remind myself weve accomplished something important, next time I am having a pity party. Ill update soon. Im really on a roll lately!

Hi, Mia,
I'm RC. Just wanted you to know that it is not yawning you are hearing at all. I have read some of your entries and just wanted you to know that I am in AWE of your mothering. Thank you for sharing Stephen with us. I hope to come back and visit again.~
Wow... three updates since I was here last!! I'm trying to keep up with everyone's journal.. but it just isn't happening lately. I can usually keep up with yours, because your updates or usually more rare than most. But here you are, power-blogging when I'm at my AOL-J laziest. Ah well... it's good... good to see Stephen, to read about your day, which is simple and beautiful... Luv you, guys...
No yawning here. I noticed the sippy cup before I read the entry. Wondered if there was water in there. But now I see, it's empty! :) I get it. Cool that he has those picsyms. He is a smart little guy. And a cutie too. I just love seeing pics of him!
Yawn here? Never! I think it's great that you work so diligently with Stephen to help him realize his full potential. I think you're great! :-) ---Robbie
Mia, this entry was so NOT boring. What an amazing little boy Stephen is, truly inspirational. My little ones love Elmo too : ) ~~Gotta say, I have a soft-spot in my heart for that furry red creature myself. And next time you have a pity party, call me I'll come....
Stephen is not only smart but so handsome. And, the pictures seem very clear on my laptop. : )
No yawn here at all, it was a joy reading about Stephen's little triumphs on a daily basis. That picsysm thing sounds like an excellent idea, even for forgetful adults like me, lol. Thanks for sharing the pics of Stephen. =)
