Saturday Fish Tales...
Fishy fishy in the brook.
Daddy caught him with a hook.
Mama fried him in the pan.
Baby ate him, like a man.
(one of my favorite nursery rhymes as a little girl) :)
Saturday was a fun day for Stephen! His daddy took him fishing at the lake down the street. This lake is seldom fished in, so they caught many a fish. Big, plump ones too! Stephen says to tell auntie Trish that he let them all go home. We didn't fry any of'em. :)
One of my favorite childhood memories is going fishing with my daddy. I went deer hunting a few times too, but...it was too cold and I hated getting up when it was still dark. I think it's been at least 14 years since I've gone fishing. Mama and daddy sold their place on the lake, and most of the local little lakes have subdivisions around them :-( (I hate change)
My daddy is like Bill Dance. He could throw a un-baited hook into a mud puddle and catch a 7 lb. large mouth bass, pretty enough for mounting. ~
Stephen doesn't have the patience for all-day fishing. His daddy said he got bored after a while and wanted to explore nature. He brought him back home after an hour and a half with only a couple of scratches where he walked right off a hill. The child is obsessed with water and tried to walk into the lake several times. Stephen knows no fear.
I'll put another album together soon, with pictures of his events with me. Not near as fun for him, I am sure..
(Read Stephen's social story about fishing, in his album above) I'm making books for him now and he loves them!

(((((Mia))))) I want Stephen to know that I enjoyed his fish tale( No pun intended) and was very happy to see the good time that he had. What a wonderful idea to make books for him. You are a most loving and thoughtful mom Mia. More hugs to you and Stephen both,
With much love,~RC~
RC-Thank you so much :) I'll tell him you said so. It is good to see him enjoy the simple things like that. Then, to have a memory book to go back and look at is a real treat for him. I got the idea from his teacher. She makes what they call social stories for the kids and at the end of the year, they can bring them home. Nice memories :)
No joke: I turned my head at the fish pictures and my hand was still over my mouth when I read "...tell auntie Trish that we let them all go home." YAY! As if y'all read my mind! [like how I incorporated the "y'all"?] Great pics. The one of Stephen sitting in the trail with his legs straight out in front of him - shows how flexible he is. I can hardly do that in yoga. Look at his "hinge at the hips" and how his back isn't rounded. He's a yoga baby! :)
What a fun day. And the pics are great!
Hugs!
Bev-It was a fun day! In a way, I'm glad I wasn't there. Good father and son time for them :) (good ME time for me) I know you know what I mean. LoL!
Freee-I knew you'd cringe when you saw the fish, that's why I had to make it clear, they went back home :) I mean, for someone who wouldn't even hurt a black widow, this could be devastating. You did really well with "y'all!" Very impressive ;-P
I really enjoyed these pictures and your entry. My most treasured memories of my Dad are our fishing trips. He started taking me when I was about 6. There is no better bond in the world than a day of fishing with your Dad, even if you don't catch fish. The time together using fishing as an excuse is where the memories come from. Hello to you, Hello to Stephen, and a big "Well Done" to Stephen's Dad. My Regards, Bill.
Bill-Thanks so much. And I'll say hello for you. I'm not sure who got the most out of it..Stephen or his Daddy. It's all his dad has talked about. :) By far, my best memories, bonding with my dad like you said. Priceless!
Freee-I forgot to say..I never noticed that before. Looking at the photo again, I see what you mean. A yoga-boy heh? Alright! I'll say that he IS the most limber thing I've ever seen. You would be amazed how limber he is. Now, if ONLY I could get him to be "still" and breathe long enough for yoga. Then, even I could do it more :) I need to work on that w/him somehow.
{{{{{Miaa}}}}} the pictures were marvelous! I've never been fishing so please tell {{{{{Stephen}}}}} that I thoroughly enjoyed seeing his fishing trip! Hugs to you and Paul and Stephen!
SOOO CUTE! I love those pictures...especially the one with him sitting down and examining the pine straw, that should be framed...so cute!
Really, it could be a book. loved the words that went with it too!
your so talented.
and it sounds like just a great day!!
yea Stephen!
Awww great pics...I love fishing too. Love not knowing what your hook may pull up from underneath the water. Looks like some large mouth bass & a sunfish in the pics? And the "don't ask...." Is that what remains of a armidillo? None up North, but when I visit my brother in FL, have seen a fair amount of them on the side of the road.
Viv-hugs to you! Stephen sends his hugs to you too, and if you're ever in the Birmingham area, we'll take you to that lake :-) It's so peaceful..even if you don't fish, it's a pretty place to sit - right, smack in the middle of and breathe in all the nature!
Sharkey-I've been working on that exact photo and I'm planning to have it framed! A lot of people favor that one. When I am finished and have it framed, I'll show it to all of you guys.
Song-Yes, lots of large mouth bass, and I am not even sure what the other one is. I know they caught a lot of bream too, which I think I've heard some call sun fish or bluegill. So that is very possible. And yes, the remains of an Alabama armadillo! :P You know your creatures, don't ya? :)
I enjoyed reading Stephen's social story, love the pics, the "don't ask", what the heck was that? Nosy me, I gotta ask. Dallis and I are going to an Alligator Hatching Ranch on Friday, this gives me a good idea to make a social story for her too!
ps. I'm still hungry after the pot roast pic!
Love you, Penny
Penny-as talented as you are making the collage crafts, etc..You could make some very good books for Dallis. What a memory for her to have, always!
Aww...how sweet. Fishing with his daddy. =) Very nice pictures, Mia.
Bridgette-Thanks, I was very impressed with his dad's photo shots of him. I'm usually the one holding the camera..I think I'll turn it over to him more often.
Awww... your photo stories are always the best!! I love the pictures. Stephen really looked like he was having a GREAT time. He must love the outdoors. And jezus, woman, you've got some BEAUTIFUL outdoors!! I love the woodsy shots. Reminds me of my grandmother's place in West Virginia. :)
Just like you I remember the time I went fishing with my father. These are the memories Stephen will long remember. Seeing him have fun like this is so heartwarming!
SloMo-I have enjoyed the photo-stories and I'm thinking of making it a habit to do for him. He loves them. We do have some beautiful land around here for photos. I've been to West Virginia too, it's an awesome place!
Muse-They had a great time! His dad talks to him about it all the time and they are going to start going often now. There is nothing quite like bonding with a loved one while fishing. Hard to explain with words...Something magical about nature.
Finally had a chance to come back and read Stephen's fishin trip story. I love your storybook/photo entries and how cool is that to put them together for Stephen's very own. :-) ---Robbie
