Today~For the first time in ...about 2 years, we took Stephen to the movies. We saw Scooby Doo, and it was funny. (I really wanted to see, "13 going on 30", but I was out-numbered by the guys) The first (and last) movie that Stephen saw at the theater was "Snow Dogs." He loves any movie or cartoon with a dog in it. We don't go to the movies often... The last movie his daddy and I saw together was, "My Cousin Vinny" and you know how old that movie is. I just can't believe how expensive it is to go to the movies! For 2 adults, and one child, popcorn and coke, it was almost $30! For the matinee! How in the world can teenagers afford to date these days!?! No wonder there are so many teens using drugs and alcohol...it's cheaper than the movies, or going out to eat. Forget doing both! Isn't that pitiful?
Anyway~ I am trying to not complain too much about the price of the movie. See, this week was a week of hell for my poor baby, and he deserved the treat. I won't go into detail, but trust me...it was a week we better not ever have to relive again. He was supposed to have gone on the 4th grade field trip to the zoo yesterday, but because of his ...experience, he wasn't able to go. Not to mention, his poor mama nearly broke her baby left toe. And, I don't even know how I did it. How goofy can one woman be, to injure a body part and not even remember how she did it? I limped for 2 days, but I'm fine now.
::Sigh of relief:: We all needed a funny movie, popcorn, coke ...and a song, sung by Ruben today. We'll survive. :)

Glad you all had a great time, yes, movies out are expensive! I took Dallis and two of her friends on MY birthday to see Home On The Range and it was over 40 dollars!
I'm sorry Stephen had a rough week, I hope things get better. For you too.
Hugs all around! Love, Penny
Yeah its nice to splurge every now and then. It will be a memory for everyone. So glad you had a good time. Lori
I saw a woman and her handicapped son in the mall the other day and thought about you. I never really considered how hard it would be just to make a trip to the mall. Does Stephen do pretty well in movies? If so, you could ask around about a dollar cinema. That would cut down on the cost and you could go more often. And woman, don't you know to sneak snacks and drinks into the movie in an oversized bag?? LOL We're gonna have to teach you a few things!
It's good for all of you to get out - even if it's difficult. You should definitely do it more often.
I'm glad you all got out and did something. I remember your entry about "My Cousin Vinny" being the last movie you and hubby saw. Sorry to hear Stephen had a rough week. Sounds like it got better though. Yeah! :-) ---Robbie
So glad you had a nice time out together. I don't go to the movies very often and whenever I do I am just amazed at how much the tickets keep going up. But, sometimes its worth it just to have a great time together and let the other stuff go away.
Really neat picture of Stephen Mia! We're on the side that would allow it to wear it 'til he outgrew it! Had a chance to catch up in your journal today. Just love this when it happens. Didn't like that comedian in the least or that you've been sick. And, we also felt kinda bad that you or Stephen could be picked on at school. Neither you or none of the rest of us deserve this. Seems like a lack of conscientiousness on the part of others. We don't know much anymore of Scooby Doo or Ruben ... But, wouldn't mind some popcorn ... maybe if we focus on it? Can hardly wait for your report the first day of the maid service! Go for the GOLD!
I am sorry you had a rough week Mia, its been something in the water...:) I am glad that you all got out and saw a movie and yes it is extrememly expensive and that is why I pack candy in my purse...yes I actually do that lol Hope that you have a better week!
It sounds like a good time for everyone! If you have respite care options, use them. I don't have much faith in public schools to address the needs of special students. You CAN find a better setting for your son, just remember the phrase "appropriate education environment" when dealing with IEP's or such. In addition to our son, my wife is a Dept. Head for her schools Sp.Ed. program.
Sorry your son didn't get to do the zoo - we all like zooing here. Australia 2004 journal has a really cool zoo site on it he might really like, also a cool aquariam site too. check it out. love your journal by the way.
Sorry for the bad week Stephen but, It got you a Scooby Doo movie. Now, that ain't bad!
Libby and I try to go to a matinee each month. If we go to the 11am, 12pm, or 1pm movie we get in for half price. Libby has a big canvas shopping bag that she carries. In it we put our drinks wrapped in aluminum foil and some snacks. We always buy a popcorn. That keeps the cost down some but, it is still ridiculous.
In NY now a family of four can't go to a baseball gave for under $250.00 by the time you get back home. That is pathetic. There should be a law that baseball tickets are free for anyone under 21. Oh well, enough complaining. Hope you all have a great week this week to make up for last week.
You're right. It is expensive to take in a family movie today. But it's all relative - and ultimately worth it, for the fun of it, once in a while. I'm sorry Stephen didn't get to go on his class trip. And your toe? I'm so sorry to hear that. Are you eating? Getting vitamins? Mia, don't make me come there and force-feed you nutrients! Take care of yourself honey. Love you.
Aww, you two certainly deserved the break! It seems like you had a wonderful time at the movies, in spite of the hefty price tag (I agree, it's ridiculous!).
I hope your small toe is much better. =P
